We kick off our monthly spotlight series with Singaporean Indian creative and researcher Dil Kaur who wrote the first ever WEIRDO blog post and is currently a contestant on fashion reality TV show Project V – the Singaporean equivalent to Project Runway.

Slam Dunk Festival announced more acts on their 2022 line up in November and it was an exciting day for many South Asian punks, with newcomers Pinkshift added to the lineup. But their lineup continues to fall behind on gender and racial diversity, leaving even some of the festival’s loyal fans on the fence about purchasing a ticket this year.

Alt-folk duo Naz & Ella today released their new single ‘No (Doesn’t Mean Convince Me) ‘ from their forthcoming EP (DE)HUMANISE. The track is a dark and haunting song about the normalised sexual harassment experienced by women and taking your power back.

LA-based DIY artist flora released their debut single Something today on Valentine’s Day in honour of “the emo kid in all of us”. The emo-tinged bedroom pop track pulls you into overwhelming nostalgia with its mellow guitar riff and flora’s grunge-style vocals in the verses contrasted by a satisfyingly crunchy guitar in the chorus.

Berlin-based grunge band Passionless Pointless released their debut album Passionless Pointless today on Vinyldyke Records. Fusing elements of punk rock with noise rock, Passionless Pointless bring listeners a dark and sludgy sound with the ferocity of punk, combined with melodic vocals and catchy guitar riffs.

The Music Issue focuses on alternative South Asian representation across the music industry. We'll be speaking with musicians, gig organisers, journalists, playlist makers and more about their experiences in the industry. We already have some incredible interviews lined up and now we’re looking for music fans to be part of this issue.
